A Savannah Christmas

A few Christmas pictures of the downtown area. Also a picture of where I live for now. The last apartment on the end is mine. One room and a small kitchen. I could wine on about how much I miss Oxford, home and most of all my wife at this time of year that we both enjoy. I miss seeing the house all decorated the tree and her smiling face as she looks over all the hard work she has put into making the house Christmasie (as she puts it). Okay I wined a little, but the truth is am lucky to have a job when so many do not. So Thank you God that all I have to give up is the comforts of home and not my home for lack of a job.

I wanted to take some pictures of how nice Savannah looked at Christmas. But as I was taking these pictures of the beautiful squares of downtown Savannah I saw the homeless that will spend the night on a bench in those squares decorated so pretty for the tourist. What would Jesus do about the homeless, the jobless and the people that have lost all hope. What gift could He give that would cure the ills of our society? So here is my Christmas thought. Jesus did his part; today it is our job to do the rest. We expect God, His Son & Spirit to answer every prayer we utter as we do nothing but sit an wait for a vision from on high. Here is the vision; a vision of a people with compassion that will do before being asked; that will do, not to be seen but to make a difference in a life. An outcast baby was born to the outcast, a poor baby was born to the poor so they could be rich in eternal life. We are all poor in spirit as we go about our life of distraction. I wonder what it would be like to forget it all and walk away with a man that told me he could make me a fisher of men? Will we ever again be as bold as the first followers of Christ?
This Christmas will be like all the others we will get stuff and give stuff. But is it what Christmas was really meant to be? Something to ponder I guess....
